B. Long answer type questions.
1. What are the various ways in which you can protect your environment?
Ans. We can protect our environment in a variety of ways:
• Plant trees near our homes and use eco-friendly means of transportation, such as electric automobiles.
• Not leave the tap running while brushing your teeth.
• Utilise the remaining water in our bottles to water plants.
• Use cloth or jute bags instead of plastic bags, purchase eco-friendly products, and decrease our use of paper.
• Clean products made from sustainable-derived components and natural oils that are biodegradable and come in
eco-friendly packaging must be used.
• Use plants that absorb dangerous pollutants from the air like Areca palm and rubber.
2. What do you understand by ecosystem? How can it be preserved and restored?
Ans. Ecosystem preservation and restoration are essential for maintaining the natural balance of life on Earth. Ecosystems
consist of living and non-living components that interact to support biodiversity and environmental stability.
Human activities like deforestation and pollution disrupt this balance, leading to climate change and natural disasters.
To counteract this, efforts are being made to conserve existing ecosystems and restore degraded ones using natural
solutions such as reforestation, wetland conservation, and soil restoration. Forests help prevent landslides, wetlands
control floods, and healthy soils absorb carbon, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. By protecting natural habitats,
planting trees, and promoting sustainable land use, we can restore ecosystems and ensure a healthier planet for
future generations.
3. What do you understand by green jobs? What are its advantages?
Ans. A green job contributes to and sustains the transition to ecologically-sustainable modes of production and consumption.
It affects all sectors, including energy, material and water con servation, waste management, and pollution control.
Green jobs, also known as green-collar jobs, are jobs in agricultural, administrative, research and development,
industrial, and service sectors that contribute significantly in protecting or restoring environmental quality, according
to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
The key benefits of green jobs include:
• Enhancing energy and resource efficiency.
• Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting cleaner air.
• Managing waste and minimising pollution effectively.
• Protecting and restoring natural ecosystems.
• Encouraging resilience and adaptation to climate change impacts.
• Generating long-term employment opportunities in sustainable industries.
• Advancing technological innovations that drive eco-friendly solutions.
4. How does climate change impact us? Also explain the role of National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) in
combating climate change.
Ans. Adapting to climate change is crucial as global warming continues to impact ecosystems, weather patterns, and
agriculture. Even with efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, past environmental damage has already altered the
climate. To survive in these changing conditions, people must develop strategies such as cultivating drought-resistant
crops, implementing water conservation techniques, and improving disaster preparedness.
The Government of India's National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC), launched in 2008, outlines eight missions
focused on renewable energy, water conservation, sustainable agriculture, and ecosystem protection. By investing in
climate-resilient infrastructure, promoting sustainable practices, and enhancing public awareness, societies can better
adapt to the challenges posed by climate change and ensure long-term environmental stability..
5. What are Green Skills? List few areas in which green skills can impact sustainable development.
Ans. Green skills are the knowledge, abilities, and practices needed to support a sustainable and environmentally friendly
economy. These skills help individuals and industries reduce waste, conserve energy, and minimise environmental
impact.
